How are your 2016 Resolutions coming along? If you are like most people, almost all have gone by the wayside. We start the year with highest hopes for making dramatic changes in our lives, and then falter as real-life takes over and we slip back into old patterns.
Luckily, it is never to late to make a resolution to do better, and we have come up with a few things that we hear our customers say over and over again that they know they should do. You can resolve to do them, and we have suggestions that make them so easy, that they will become habit in no time.
"I really need to wean myself off of acrylics/gels/nail biting."
Resolution #1 - Take better care of your nails.
This problem got a lot easier to solve last summer, when Zoya introduced the Naked Manicure. This great system was designed for people who have damaged their nails by using harsh products, who have naturally weak nails, or have yellowed nails from constant polish and polish remover use. The system, when applied in the suggested order, not only goes to work to strengthen and condition your nails, but it looks so beautiful that you see instant improvement. Even better, like all Zoya polishes, the Naked Manicure system is 5-free.
The system starts with the Naked Base, a nutrient-rich formula that treats the nail with a potent mixture of vitamins, proteins and botanicals. Over the top of that, you apply two coats of your choice of tinted Perfector. These tints are designed to look like your nails, but better, and also contain optical diffusers and keratin fillers to enhance, rather than hide, the natural nail. You can layer shades, or just choose one--Buff, Nude, Pink, Mauve or Lavender. Lavender is especially good for neutralizing yellow tones. If you like the look of a French Manicure, you can then add some Naked White Tip Perfector to the free edge of your nail, but this step is totally optional. Once the Perfectors are dry, apply a layer of Naked Manicure Satin Seal Top Coat. This matte coat will take away any shine from the previous layers, making it look as if your nails are just naturally this nice. Containing UV filters to protect the nail from environmental damage, it provides a nice alternative to a shiny nail if you stop with this step. Finally, if you do prefer shine, finish with a coat of Glossy Seal Top Coat.
Blushies have been raving about this system, as well as experimenting with it. If you aren't ready to go for the Naked look, you can apply the Base, Perfector and then a coat or two of a colored polish and finish with the Seals to experience most of the benefits of Zoya's Naked Manicure. Your nails will thank you--they will look better than they have in ages, and because all of the layers dry quite quickly, you will be done in the amount of time you would regularly spend polishing your nails!
"I really should exfoliate more often."
Resolution #2 - Exfoliate twice a week, no excuses.
If we had a dollar for every time we've heard people say they forget to exfoliate...well, we would have quite a few dollars. But exfoliation doesn't need to be a long, complicated thing! We can offer two suggestions that will make it easy to work exfoliation into your skin care routine.
First, consider Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare Alpha-Beta Peels. Available in three different strengths (Ultra Gentle, Original and Extra-Strength), these two-step pads take under three minutes from start to finish, and leave your skin glowing. Easy to use day or night, all you need to do is wipe Step 1 across your face, neck and décolleté, wait about 2 minutes and repeat the process with Step 2. Done!
Second, you can exfoliate the Arcona way--overnight and in the shower! When you are using the Arcona Basic 5, several nights a week you skip your hydration step and use a treatment step, either The Solution or Gentle Solution. These gentle serums help to resurface your skin while you sleep by stimulating rapid cell renewal and deep exfoliation. In the morning, in the shower, you rinse the skin and then apply one of Arcona's exfoliators like Cranberry Gommage or Golden Grain Gommage. You emerge from the shower with a glow!
"I know I should wear sunscreen more regularly, but I don't like the feel/look/smell or I forget about it."
Resolution #3 - Wear your sunscreen daily and reapply when you are outdoors.
We all know that we need to wear sunscreen. We also know, if we have ever read the back of a sunscreen tube, that it needs to be reapplied to be effective. If you wear makeup, have oily skin or are sweaty from being in the sun, you know how difficult it can be to reapply. Most of us can remember to apply sunscreen once a day, because so many moisturizers and foundations contain sunscreen. But we have to reapply it? Oh no! If you're wearing makeup, that will completely mess it up. If you have oily skin or are sweating, it can be difficult to keep it from sliding right off your face.
Brush On Block to the rescue! This pure mineral sunscreen comes packaged in a handy brush, and is invisible once applied. With an SPF 30, it allows you to be out in the sun for 30 times longer than you could without it, before you begin to burn. So if you are fair and freckled, and can only take about 5 minutes of sun exposure, a generous dusting of Brush On Block will extend that time to about 150 minutes, or 2 1/2 hours. But after that, all you need to do is brush on another layer and you're protected again!
Do you want to revisit those resolutions now? We won't tell anyone if you go for the do-over and come up with a list that you can really stick to!
